This house came out of a long-term collaboration between Florian Maurer and Thomas Born, a swiss-trained machinist and Okanagan builder. Thomas led the construction teams on many of the houses Florian designed for Naramata sites. Florian completed this design for Thomas’ house on just two sheets of paper and Thomas built it using mostly recycled materials. During construction, Thomas modified the design to suit the materials he had on hand. The result is a building that generally expresses the parti, but which arrives at a basic practicality that few architects allow themselves to realize.
