Summerland RCMP Station
The Summerland RCMP Detachment building is a utilitarian structure. It serves the public by providing a productive and efficient work environment for the RCMP. All work stations are placed along the south facade, where they are daylit and ventilated. They are protected from overheating and solar glare by fixed sunshades/ light shelves, reflecting light onto the soffit and ceilings. The public entrance and cell block on the north side are clad with Corten steel, now nicely rusted.
The building also takes advantage of the adjacent municipal hockey arena’s waste heat. The rink’s refrigeration compressors dump waste heat, which is picked up through a heat exchanger to heat the RCMP station through the winter.
